Home Porsche Repair Porsche 911 (993): 1995 - 1998

Press Reviews

"We love it...This new manual is exceedingly comprehensive and it will be a valuable tool for all 993 owners and professional technicians alike...We highly recommend this service manual for all 993 owners. And, for owners without access to the ridiculously expensive factory repair manuals, this book is an absolute steal. In fact, it will pay for itself many times over during your years of 993 ownership."

"The latest release from Bentley Publishers is a must-have for any 993 Carrera owner. Called the Porsche 911 Carrera Service Manual, it is the bible when it comes to maintenance jobs on your 993. And no matter the job, this manual has it covered - from a simple piece of trim replacement to extensive wiring diagrams, you couldn't ask for a more extensive and comprehensive manual."

"As with its other service manuals, Bentley's in-depth 993 manual is a quality piece. With hard covers and high-quality paper, it's built to last. That's a good thing, since we suspect it will get plenty of use amongst 993 owners who want to work on their own cars-or simply know what they're talking about when they bring their cars in for service...this may be the ultimate resource for DIY owners."

"This is the first time I have seen one of their service manuals, and it's clear from even a cursory glance that they are not messing about. This is no coffee-table research book, it is a workshop essential. A functional tool, every bit as vital to a 993 mechanic as good quality screwdrivers and a torque wrench..."

"To call this Service Manual thorough is a massive understatement. It may well be overkill for the average 993 owner. For an enthusiastic DIY mechanic though, it will be a godsend - arming you with all the knowledge a Porsche training course could give you (and more). For a professional mechanic who works on 993s, this is a vital resource. It is exceptionally well thought-out, with logically organised sections, the index repeated on the inside endpapers and sections clearly marked for thumbing through. You need this book in your workshop."

"Better set aside your notions of the language of Shakespeare, since each section and each procedure is accompanied by detailed photos, illustrations or diagrams, totalling 1523 across 946 pages(!) So here we have it, an indispensable book for engaging in any [Porsche 993] project."

"...comprehensive...the pictures are clear, with instructions that anyone could follow along with."

"I've had other 993 Carrera service manuals before and they've been adequate but lacking in some areas. This one, though, seems to be very comprehensive. There are masses of illustrations, both full colour photographs and mono line drawings - all very clear and useful. It's obvious that a huge amount of work and research has gone into the production of this book.

Every aspect of service and repair is covered, from removing a rear badge to dropping the engine. There are also countless wiring diagrams and information on diagnostics.

If you own a Porsche 993 and do some home maintenance, then this service manual is an essential purchase."

"The physical qualities of the book are very good, and it is well indexed, making it easy to find what you are looking for. The images and illustrations are excellent, and each procedure is covered in a logical, step-by-step manner which is easy to follow...

What makes this publication so much nicer to use than the factory manual is the extensive use of photographs to illustrate the repair procedures. Doing so means that descriptions are condensed, and sometimes unnecessary. For most DIYers, we just need pointing in the right direction, and use our own common sense methods to get the task done. The manual does this well, and also provides the detail when you need it, or get stuck...

Overall, a great product, and to my mind a 'must have' for the serious enthusiast."

"As a shop owner, I know how expensive and difficult it can be to assemble and use meaningful technical resources to work on or properly maintain these cars. The original Porsche manuals (now out of print) literally cost more than a thousand dollars when you could obtain legitimate copies; and most of the bootleg versions I have looked at on the internet are incomplete, often missing entire sections as well as any of the supplements and corrections that Porsche once issued to the set owners, not to mention the intellectual property issues associated with these questionable versions.

The 6 1/2 lb. Bentley 993 manual is a well-organized and easily searchable hard bound volume that is extensively illustrated with many photos, most in color, as well as diagrams where appropriate. It contains sections covering just about any service item, including multiple sections covering engine disassembly and re assembly, something that is sorely missing from even the later factory manuals for the 986/996 water cooled cars. It carries a full set of factory wiring diagrams, as well as over 60 pages on individual OBD II fault codes and their explanations.

...[The Porsche 911 Carrera (Type 993) Service Manual: 1995-1998] is an excellent addition to the technical library of any shop or car owner that will be working on these models."
